How to Replace a Lost, Stolen or Damaged Florida Driver License or ID
What a replacement costs, what to bring, and what to do if your license was stolen.
Rules and fees change. Spiral Search is an independent directory and is not a government agency. Confirm current requirements with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) or your county tax collector before you go.
The short version
- A replacement driver license or ID card costs $25 (a tax collector service fee of about $6.25 may also apply).
- If your license was stolen and you have a police report, the replacement is free.
- Replacing a license online through the state's MyDMV Portal may be possible for some people. Others must visit in person, for example if you need a new photo or a name or address change.
Steps
- If it was stolen, file a police report and keep a copy. A police report is what waives the fee.
- Check the MyDMV Portal to see whether online replacement is available for you.
- Otherwise go in person to a driver license office or tax collector. Bring proof of identity, proof of Social Security number and two proofs of address (see what to bring).
- Pay the fee and receive a temporary paper license while the card is mailed.
- Protect yourself: if an ID with your address was stolen, consider placing a fraud alert with the credit bureaus.
